Time flies—and soon we’ll be flying!

We already showed you images of our freshly painted airplane, now we have a time-lapse video of the whole process. Sometimes I feel life moves this fast. I definitely feel that way about our approaching launch date!

I hope you enjoy the video as much as I do.

    Looks very slick!

Perhaps OpenSkies will find a lil room for some 787’s too?

    :)

[...] Watching Plane Paint Dry It is actually interesting to see how they do it — painting a plane! Would love to hear a technician explain the process. (smile) [via OpenSkies blog] [...]

This concept just sounds better all the time. I hope the fares are reasonable and DFW will be included in the routes available.

That was a beautiful video, but for EIGHT days, that plane did not produce any revenue for the company

BA should use 787 Dreamliners on this service. They have already ordered them – so why not?
The concept should be marketed as the future of luxury/premium transatlantic air travel in the vein of the old Concorde service. It should be THE BA flagship service that sets the tone for the whole airline as Concorde once did. Would blow all competition away with prestige and the ultimate experience in flying.
I fly regularly to UK, France, Italy from NY in business class and would use this service from any of those places. I have flown most airlines (mostly terrible) including EOS (not bad, actually) and i have flown Concorde back in the day.
BA is missing a HUGE opportunity to really do something amazing, make money, restore the British Cool factor to international flight that no longer exists.
This should NOT be called “open skies” – a silly name based on the law that was recently passed between the US and EU. It reminds me of the disastrous re-marketing that BA did during the 90s when they destroyed the livery of the airline with ethnic motifs. Disaster. Should be supporting the “mother” brand and adding to the Aura of BA as an industry leader.
This concept should be called “SPEEDWING” the moniker that pilots use for Air Traffic Control on BA flights. Would be incredible.
Please pass this on to the powers that be.

i thought they used SpeedBird ?

Although i’ve also heard that BA are dropping NYC from manchester now too.

Scary that our British Airline wants people to connect in Paris or is only interested if you want to shuttle it down to london. I’m sorry to say that unless OpenSkies fills the void i’ll be hoping the other carrier with the red tails start up the service!

    Dale,

Fantastic video, a true insight into the birth of OpenSkies! Being one that loves detail, it would be great if you could share with us the specifics of the plane preping, including 1) gallons of paint used, 2) number of workman hours required…

How about OpenSkies focuses one of its Hubs at Manchester, we’ve already seen BA consolidation at Heathrow and whether it be true or not rumours are abound that BA is scrapping MAN-JFK, this route is prime for an OS 757 and would be a fantastic addition rather than congested airports such as LHR, CDG.

Would be nice to see OS planes dotted around key airports in England(Manchester), Scotland(Aberdeen) and Wales (Cardiff). Cant say a 757 on select days would be a massive loss of profit….

If the service is exceptional and business travellers can get from NYC to BRU or CDG quickly, it will be a success even if the airlines is called OpenSkies or what-have-you. What is going to matter is frequent-flier benefits and connections onward via other OneWorld partners or BA itself.

I’m a flight attendant for delta connection. i would like to see Open Skies airlines fly from Orlando to Paris, Amsterdam and Rome as our international airport in Orlando does not have point to point service to those European cities. that would be a dream for our European tourists who want the point to point service to get them to Disney! Lufthansa just started service in Orlando in October to Frankfurt…but we are still waiting for that non stop flight to Paris which we hope happens soon!

OK, what are the chances for an August CDG-JFK service? If low, please let me know so I can go ahead a book with someone else.

    Hi,

I’m very impatient to discover the Open Skies service between Paris and NYC (and also to get an idea of the prices).

Just an idea : you should translate this blog in French, because it will be one of your first market and it can be useful for a lot of people who don’t speak English very well to get informations about your future services.

Good luck for the launch of Open Skies !
    Quentin,

If i understand right this flyng compant is most concentrated on business users so I think that you will provide a connection with Milano Malpensa that actually has some slots avaiable.
    Greetings from italy.

This blog is a great way for the airline to advertise while getting in touch with the costumers and aviation enthusiasts.

    A very creative idea, congratulations!

It seems to be the sort of airline I would truly like to work for as a pilot (I’m a student pilot, yet).

    Greetings from the Azores (Portugal).

Hey why dont you guys have OpenSkies flights from places in the UK just not Heathrow? you wouldnt compete with yourselves because its a business class only airline.

OpenSkies should use the A350X on their routes from Europe.
