Newark Liberty International Airport

Newark LoungeNewark Lounge

Happy New Year…  a very special and sincere thank you to all our customers. We have flown over 125,000 passengers so far and they are the reason we fly. The expression goes – that without them… is entirely true. Thanks not only for being our customers, but also, our best ambassadors.

I really appreciate your positive comments. We certainly have a most exciting year before us and even in this market, we see some good opportunities ahead I will discuss later this month. But I wanted to chat today in response to John and James about our decision to consolidate our flights to Newark Liberty International Airport.

Consolidating to one airport made great sense for us operationally as well as presenting a stronger and more robust schedule proposition for our customers. In our research we realized the four large customer segments: financial, pharmaceutical, food and wine and fashion… all had user preferences for EWR. A decision such as this clearly was not going to make everyone equally happy…but we tried to accommodate the largest group, while not inconveniencing the others too much.

The combination of a better offering for customers, an easier airport to operate from and the chance to save on operating costs made this the right business decision at this point. When you are a small company, you must have an eye for long term strategy but short term tactics are critically important too. And, in this instance, drove the decision. EWR serves us and our customers very conveniently and will provide a nice platform for future growth. It’s a bit smaller and plays to our brand as well as Orly does at the other end of the route.

If in the future the world changes (as it sometimes does), we will not eliminate JFK from consideration…it’s a fine airport.  In the end, it’s all about customer preference… and we’re doing our best to deliver it.

We are going to do everything possible to make the customer experience at EWR as pleasant and ‘OpenSkies like’ as possible…something I hope you have grown to expect from our little company.

Do come back often for more updates and keep your comments coming!

Best wishes,
Dale

i am very saddened and disappointed that JFK is not an option any more. For those living on Long Island,to get to EWR means going through NYC rush hour one way or another.
I have been flying with L’avion ever since it started 01/06 or 07 ? and really enjoyed it. Orly is such a great little airport, and l’avion or openskies have been great flying experiences.
We have many French relatives who have thrilled with your airline and wish you are going to be back soon to JFK

Please come back to JFK !

    Hi Dale -

Thank you for explaining the consolidation to one airport; that certainly makes a lot of sense and it explains why I could not find the flights out of JFK! If you folks know of any easy ways to get from JFK to EWR, please share that with your JFK customers. I’m sure you die-hard New Yorkers know lots of tricks that us mountain dwellers have no chance of figuring out without a little help.

I wish you and your coworkers all the best in the New Year and thank you for explaining things!

    Sincerely,

    John Canning

Leaving from Newark to Orly it’s perfect, the return not as much: being late in the evening, not too many commuting flights, when from JFK a pletora of it.

Hi, a great idea to fly from EWR, because many passenger have to connect in EWR -comming from other citys, including myself. It is much easier to fly to EWR than to JFK.
    In Europa, also consider Amsterdam.
Best regards and good luck. Dieter

It is awful that you are not flying out of JFK anymore. Flying out of EWR is not great for our business. We fly artists in from Paris and having to get to Newark is a pain and costly and quite honestly we won’t do it. I hope you come back to JFK soon! For me personally, I will probably still make the trek to Newark for my personal flight but only if I do not have enough miles to upgrade on other airlines. Cost of cabs to Newark do not make it cost effective.

I still hope you will share with us some advice on how to get to Newark quickly and easily. In the meantime, I just came across this survey that places EWR at the bottom of airports in America:

Can you share with us some of the things that Open Skies is doing to make visiting Newark a better experience for its passengers?

I’m looking forward to my next trip on Open Skies!
