Hallo Amsterdam!
For the record, I don’t own any wooden shoes. But I certainly have an affinity for the Dutch, especially since we will be flying there as of October 15th!
Amsterdam will be the third great city to host OpenSkies. It’s an exciting step as we grow the airline, introduce our unique service to a whole new city and connect our friends in New York with another European destination. In fact, New York and Amsterdam have a long history as the Dutch were the first to settle Manhattan and originally named it “New Amsterdam”.
Why Amsterdam? Why not? It has Europe’s largest historic city center and is home to many great companies. It’s a major trading port and Schiphol is the 5th busiest passenger airport in Europe. A hub for commerce as well as a truly beautiful city with plenty to do: explore the city by bike like a local, cruise the historic canals, take in some fantastic museums and art galleries, and even do a bit of shopping.
We’ll be departing Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS) at 1:20pm arriving in New York-JFK at 3:35pm. On the way back we’ll depart New York-JFK at 8:05pm arrive in Amsterdam-Schiphol at 9:40am the following morning. And that’ll be our schedule six days a week.
Flights will be available for booking from August 1, and we’ll kick it off with a special Amsterdam launch offer in PREM+. Check back soon!

Thanks for the update, sounds great! Out of curiosity, why is the route only six days a week (or does it just have a different schedule the other day)?
Thanks!

Hi Dale,
This is really good news, congratulations with the new route!
I am a loyal BA frequent flyer and I live in AMS so being able to fly to NY direct with you is almost like an early Christmas present.
I have a question regarding One World Around The World Tickets and Open Skies: will it be possible to schedule a One World ATWT incorporating Open Skies flights?
Looking forward to board Open Skies in Amsterdam in October!
Best wishes,
MB

Am I right in thinking that it will be a nice launch offer for the people in New York and standard prices for us people who fly from AMS all the time?
It’s great news that a certain blue airline (and it’s partners) are going to have some transatlantic competition from here, I just hope we’re invited to the party also!!

Will you start advertising your airline and the new route form amsterdam in any dutch publications like newspapers or magazines

Your webside is as extraordinary as the airline. And I hardly know an airline, where the CEO writes a blog.

Hallo!
I am living in Amsterdam and am so excited about Open Skies flying from Schiphol to New York. I am an avid plane spotter and have many photos of BA planes – I now look forward to adding to that collection when Open Skies comes to my town! I think the product and concept is very refreshing and look forward to flying on a new airline with a new attitude!
